kingToolbox/WindTerm
A professional cross-platform SSH/Sftp/Shell/Telnet/Tmux/Serial terminal.
WindTerm is a Windows/Mac/Linux terminal client bundling SSH2, Telnet, Serial, tmux integration, X11 and port forwarding, plus sftp/scp/ZMODEM file transfer into one app. It's aimed at developers who currently juggle PuTTY, a separate SFTP client, and a terminal emulator and want one binary that does all of it with better scrollback/memory behavior.
The scrollback and memory numbers in the README are real differentiators, not fluff: cat-ing a 97MB file at unlimited scrollback uses ~100MB in WindTerm versus 3GB+ in xterm/rxvt/putty, which matters if you regularly dump large logs over SSH. Protocol coverage is unusually complete for a single client — SSH agent forwarding, ProxyJump, GSSAPI, X11 forwarding, and native tmux integration are things you'd normally need three separate tools for. It ships prebuilt binaries for all three platforms, so there's no build step to evaluate it.
It's 'partial open source' by the maintainer's own description — the actual application (GUI, session handling, most of the value) isn't in this repo, only reusable widgets and vendored libraries like libssh and Onigmo. That means you can't audit, patch, or fork the real client, and contributing is effectively closed off. The performance benchmarks are self-run against several-year-old competitor versions (Putty 0.71, iTerm2 3.3.6, Kitty 0.14.6 from 2019-2020) with no independent reproduction, so treat the headline numbers as directional at best. The v2.x roadmap ('Spring 2021 ~ Summer 2022') is still marked 'Developing' as of the 2025 update, with features like SSH GSSAPI auth and session search repeatedly pushed back — plan for slower delivery than the roadmap implies.
