openFrameworks wrapper for FFmpeg/libavcodec
An openFrameworks addon that wraps libavcodec/FFmpeg for reading and writing audio and video — streaming playback, file writing, metadata, and waveform extraction. For oF users who need cross-platform media I/O without hand-rolling the raw FFmpeg C API themselves.
Gives you raw buffer access plus built-in resampling, so you can feed arbitrary sample rates/channel counts into oF's audio callback without writing conversion code yourself. The waveform-to-ofPath extraction is a genuinely useful feature most thin wrappers skip. Covers a wide platform matrix (Linux, macOS, iOS, Windows, Android) through precompiled binaries rather than requiring every consumer to build FFmpeg themselves.
Pinned to FFmpeg 3.2.2, a release from 2016 — missing a decade of codec/format support and FFmpeg CVE fixes, and there's no indication it'll be rebased. Windows setup needs manual linker-flag surgery (/SAFESEH:NO) and manually adding .lib files through the VS UI rather than a scripted build, which breaks easily on toolchain upgrades. The author's own README flags the licensing as 'a bit tricky' (LGPL + dynamic linking requirements) and admits the code is only 'mostly (?) memory leak free' — not confidence-inspiring for anything shipping to users. No tests, no CI, and at 41 stars after years it's a one-maintainer project with thin community support if something breaks.
