// the take

An Objective-C bootstrap for iOS projects that bakes in build-quality tooling: compile-time checks for environment config, build metadata burned into the app icon, and macros for nil-checks and required-super calls. Aimed at iOS teams around 2014-2015 doing CocoaPods-based multi-environment builds, not anyone on a modern Swift/SPM stack.

The environment plist validation is a genuinely good idea - missing a key for one of your environments is a compile-time error with a clickable link to the config, not a runtime crash in production. Baking build number, branch, commit hash and configuration into the app icon is a cheap, clever way to tell builds apart on a device without opening Xcode. The KZB_REQUIRE_SUPER and KZB_REQUIRE_PARAMS macros enforce real invariants (super calls, non-nil args) at a layer most teams just hope developers remember by convention.

Last pushed in October 2020 and built entirely around Objective-C, CocoaPods and Xcode's legacy build system - there's no Swift, no Package Manager support, and nothing suggesting it survives Xcode's newer build system or Apple Silicon toolchains. Integration isn't drop-in: you're manually editing your .pch file, adding empty marker files, wiring build-phase shell scripts, and hand-setting user-defined build settings, which is exactly the kind of fragile per-project surgery that breaks silently on the next Xcode upgrade. The warning suppression list (-Wno-overriding-method-mismatch, -Wno-language-extension-token, etc.) is opinionated in ways that won't fit every codebase, and there's no CI config in the repo to prove any of this still builds today.

We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
