:waning_crescent_moon: Darktile is an experimental/abandoned GPU rendered terminal emulator designed for tiling window managers.

Darktile is a GPU-accelerated terminal emulator built in Go, aimed at Linux tiling window manager users who want ligatures, sixel graphics, and theming without a heavyweight terminal stack. Explicitly labeled abandoned/experimental by the author, so treat it as a reference codebase rather than a daily driver.

Clean separation between termutil (VT100/ANSI parsing), gui (OpenGL rendering via ebiten/glfw), and hinters (regex-based overlay annotations for hex colors, permissions, URLs) makes the codebase easy to navigate for anyone wanting to understand terminal emulator internals. It actually implements sixel graphics and font ligature rendering, which most hobby terminal emulators skip. Config/theme system is dead simple YAML with sensible fallback defaults, no fuss.

Repo is explicitly abandoned as of last push in 2023, so bugs in ANSI parsing edge cases or GPU rendering quirks (a common pain point for terminal emulators) won't get fixed. Linux/X11-only by design, no Wayland-native support mentioned, and Windows/macOS are explicitly out of scope. Depends on a large vendored tree including ebiten (a game engine) for rendering, which is an unusual and heavy dependency for a terminal emulator, and increases the maintenance surface if you fork it. No mention of tests beyond a handful of files in termutil and hinters, so coverage of ANSI escape sequence handling looks thin.
