Python module to generate ATOM feeds, RSS feeds and Podcasts.

python-feedgen builds Atom and RSS feeds from Python code, and it can write podcast feeds through a bundled iTunes extension. It suits anyone generating feeds from a script or backend, such as a podcast host or a site that publishes entries from a database.

Feeds and entries share one API, and repeated fields like contributors accept a keyword argument, a dict, or a list of dicts, which cuts down on boilerplate. The extension system is the real draw: each extension can target Atom, RSS, or both, the podcast extension covers the iTunes elements that directories expect, and DC, media, geo, and torrent extensions ship alongside it with tests for each. It is on PyPI and packaged for Fedora, and the dual FreeBSD and LGPLv3+ license lets it fit into either permissive or copyleft projects.

The last push was July 2024, more than two years ago, so check the issue tracker and recent PyPI releases before depending on it for feeds that have to keep working with current readers and validators. Extensions are loaded by name and attached as dynamic attributes, so fg.podcast only exists after load_extension runs, which means no static types or editor completion for extension methods. The documented test, python -m feedgen, prints a sample feed rather than asserting anything, so the real checks live in the tests directory and need to be run separately.
