Blueprint for custom_component developers.

A template repository for building Home Assistant custom integrations, maintained by the HACS creator. It's not a working integration — it's a starting skeleton with the coordinator/config_flow/entity boilerplate HA expects, meant to be cloned via GitHub's template feature and renamed.

Ships a working devcontainer plus scripts/develop, scripts/lint, and scripts/setup, so you get a running HA instance with the stub integration loaded in minutes instead of hand-assembling a dev environment. The file layout (coordinator.py, config_flow.py, entity.py, api.py, data.py) mirrors what HA's own integration quality checklist expects, so code that starts here tends to pass HACS validation without restructuring later. CI is already wired up with separate lint and validate workflows, and dependency updates are preconfigured via Renovate.

Renaming the integration is entirely manual — find-and-replace across files and folders, no scaffolding script or cookiecutter step, so it's easy to miss a reference in manifest.json or translations/en.json. Zero actual tests ship despite 'add tests' being listed as a next step; you're pointed at pytest-homeassistant-custom-component but get no example test to copy from. The repo bundles both Renovate and Dependabot config and expects you to manually delete/rename one, which is dead weight most people forget to clean up. api.py talks to a placeholder API, so none of the harder real-world problems (auth refresh, rate limiting, partial failures) are demonstrated — you're on your own the moment you touch a real backend.
