// the take
This isn't a software project — it's a GitHub repo whose only content is a README (mostly copy-pasted from Wikipedia's DevOps article) linking to 100+ PDF scans of commercially published books on DevOps, Linux, Git, and shell scripting, stored directly in the repo. It's a free ebook dump dressed up as a 'resource list,' not code anyone would clone to build with.
The book list itself references legitimately good, well-known titles (Pro Git, Site Reliability Engineering, The DevOps Handbook, The Phoenix Project), so as a reading list of titles worth tracking down legally it's not badly chosen.
The repo redistributes dozens of copyrighted, commercially sold books as PDFs with no licensing or permission noted anywhere — this is copyright infringement, and GitHub has taken down near-identical repos before, so it's one DMCA notice away from disappearing. There's no code, no project, nothing to install or depend on; stars reflect demand for free books, not engineering value. It's been dead since early 2021. The README content itself is lifted wholesale from Wikipedia rather than written for the repo.
We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
