📦 Terminal assistant to find and install node packages.
Emma is a keyboard-driven terminal UI for searching npm and Yarn packages and installing them without leaving the shell. It suits developers who already live in a terminal and want to add a dependency without opening the registry website.
- Search goes to Algolia's index of the registries instead of hitting npm on every keystroke, which is what makes infinite scrolling through results practical in a terminal.
- Multi-select is the useful part. You toggle several packages with space and install them in one pass, instead of running separate yarn add commands and waiting on each.
- The overview pane lists a package's dependencies and devDependencies before anything touches package.json, so you can see what you are about to pull in.
- Search depends entirely on one hosted Algolia index. If the index goes stale or the account changes terms, there is no fallback to the registry's own search, and the README does not say what happens then.
- The UI code is duplicated. Footer, Overview, Scroll and Search exist in both packages/emma-cli/src/components and packages/create-emma/src/components, so a fix in one has to be ported to the other by hand.
- The server/ directory (Prisma schema, starter discovery jobs) is not mentioned in the README, so it is unclear what a contributor needs to run. The only test files in the listing are under server/. Nothing under packages/ shows any, though the tree is truncated, so check before relying on that.
