Next generation iOS and Android apps for Mattermost in React Native

The official React Native client for Mattermost, the self-hosted Slack alternative. It's for teams already running Mattermost server who need first-party iOS/Android apps rather than relying on the web client or a third-party wrapper.

The CI setup is unusually thorough for a mobile repo — separate Detox and Maestro e2e pipelines, per-platform build actions, S3 build caching, and spec-duration tracking to balance test shards. It uses WatermelonDB (via the database_extension Kotlin/Java helpers) for local persistence, which is the right call for a chat app that needs offline read access and fast list rendering. Push notifications are handled natively per-platform rather than through a generic RN wrapper, which shows in the amount of Kotlin/Java code for notification categories, reply actions, and dismiss handling.

It's tightly coupled to the Mattermost server API and account model — not something you can repurpose as a generic chat app starter despite the amount of reusable-looking infrastructure. Self-compiling requires also standing up your own push notification proxy service, which most people evaluating the repo for architecture reference won't want to do just to get push working in a test build. The build system pulls in Buck, Fastlane, Gradle, and native Xcode/Android tooling simultaneously, so the barrier to running it locally is real, not just 'npm install'.
