Free and Open Source Photo Libraries

A side-by-side table of 17 free, self-hosted photo libraries (Immich, Photoprism, Ente, Lychee, Piwigo and others), each scored 0 to 10 on features like mobile upload, face recognition, and sharing. It suits someone building a shortlist to try, and works better as a starting point than as a verdict.

- Many cells link to the issue, docs page, or demo behind the score, so a disputed rating can be checked rather than taken on trust.

- The table is generated. The tree has projects.json, features.md, readme.tpl, generate_readme.py, a test file, and a regen workflow, so a score change is a data edit, not a hand edit of a wide markdown table.

- The scope is stated plainly: free-of-cost projects, with Libre-licensed ones admitted by pull request. That keeps the list short enough to compare in one view.

- Link checking and linting are configured (markdown-link-check, MegaLinter, jscpd, htmlhint), which targets the dead links that usually rot a comparison table first.

- The 0 to 10 scale has no rubric. Nothing says what separates a 6 from an 8, so the numbers are one maintainer's judgment, and the README itself says no guarantee is made for accuracy or completeness.

- No date appears on the ratings. Photo projects change quickly, and a score from two years ago looks the same as one from last month.

- The table has 17 project columns of logos, badges, and emoji-coded scores. It is hard to read in a terminal or on a phone, and the hover tips the legend promises do not work in a plain markdown view. The linked HTML version is the usable one.
