Build and deploy a React website quickly on Heroku
A personal boilerplate from the unpkg author for spinning up a React + webpack + Express app and deploying it to Heroku with one command. It's for someone who wants Heroku-specific asset pipeline and caching wiring done once, not a general-purpose React starter.
The scope is explicitly bounded — the README lists what it doesn't do (routing, data fetching, SSR, state management) so you're not guessing what you're signing up for. The long-term caching setup (year-long max-age with a CDN-ready public/assets output) and the deploy-button-to-production path are concrete, battle-tested pieces, not theoretical — the author runs unpkg on this same stack at real traffic.
It's Heroku-or-nothing: the deploy flow, session config, and asset pipeline all assume Heroku's dyno and config:set model, so porting to any other host means rewriting the deploy story from scratch. No router, no data fetching, no SSR means you're assembling the rest of a real app yourself, and the author says outright this is 'mainly for me' with maintenance tied to their own usage rather than any commitment to the project. The stack (classic Express + webpack + cookie sessions, pre-hooks-era React patterns) reads as dated next to anything built in the last few years.
