// the take
Flow is a single Rust binary (`f`) that bundles one developer's entire workflow tooling — git/jj helpers, env and secrets management, deploy scripts, domain management, and AI agent task orchestration (with a MoonBit-based task runner bolted on via FFI). It's aimed at developers who want to adopt nikiv's whole dev-environment philosophy rather than people looking for a focused utility.
The install script verifies SHA-256 checksums by default and only skips verification behind an explicit `FLOW_INSTALL_INSECURE=1` opt-out, which is the right default. Shipping as a compiled binary instead of a shell-script grab-bag means fast startup for a command surface this large. The MoonBit/Rust FFI boundary has an actual benchmark (`bench/moon_ffi_boundary`) rather than an assumed-cheap boundary, so the hybrid-language choice is at least measured.
The scope is enormous — git, jj, auth, domains, deploy, daemon management, telemetry, and AI task orchestration all in one CLI — which means adopting it means buying into someone else's entire dev environment, not picking up a tool for one job. The build depends on a separate pinned vendor repo (`flow-vendor`) hydrated at build time, which is an extra supply-chain hop beyond a normal `cargo build` and a second place things can go stale or break. There's a baked-in analytics/telemetry module (`analytics.rs`, plus docs on an 'anonymous telemetry contract') that anyone adopting this for real work needs to audit before trusting it. Distribution is curl-pipe-to-shell with canary/stable upgrade channels and no crates.io presence, which is a lot of trust surface for a tool with this much reach into git, secrets, and deployment.
