Pragmatic testing ebook
An unfinished ebook by Orta Therox (Artsy, CocoaPods) on iOS testing practices circa 2015-2018. Covers XCTest fundamentals, async testing, snapshot testing, and Core Data — written for Objective-C era iOS developers who wanted more than Apple's sparse documentation gave them.
Orta's iOS testing credibility is real — he shipped this knowledge at Artsy scale, not as a tutorial author. The async testing chapter is the strongest part: concrete techniques for dealing with dispatch queues and network stubs that were genuinely hard to find anywhere else at the time. The dependency injection and Core Data chapters are short but accurate, no fluff. The ePub generation is a single Ruby script, trivially reproducible.
13 chapters are empty stubs with 0 words — the table of contents is aspirational, not actual. Last meaningful content update was 2018, which predates Swift concurrency, XCTest's own async/await support, and the entire SwiftUI testing story. The OCMock and VCRURLConnection references are museum pieces now. Anyone writing Swift tests today will need to mentally translate most of this, and some chapters simply have no modern equivalent here.
