philipplackner/ShoppingListTestingYT
This is the companion repo for one of Philipp Lackner's Android testing tutorials on YouTube — a shopping list app meant to demonstrate unit and instrumented testing patterns in a small Android/Kotlin project. It's aimed at Android developers following along with the video series, not at people looking for a production shopping list app.
The project structure is a clean, minimal Android Studio skeleton (app module, standard androidTest/test source sets) which makes it easy to diff against as a starting point when following the tutorial. Being a Philipp Lackner repo, the accompanying video content is generally well-explained even if the code itself is sparse.
The directory tree shows nothing but the default Android Studio boilerplate — a stock MainActivity.kt, default ExampleUnitTest.kt and ExampleInstrumentedTest.kt, no ViewModels, repositories, DAOs, or actual shopping list feature code. For a repo whose entire purpose is demonstrating testing, there's no visible test code beyond the auto-generated placeholders, which means either the branch shown is a bare starting point or the interesting content never made it into this checkout. Forks (207) nearly equal stars (202), a strong signal this is a tutorial-following repo rather than something used independently. Last push was mid-2023 with no ongoing maintenance, and Kotlin/Android tooling has moved on enough since then (AGP, Compose testing APIs) that some patterns are likely stale.
