// the take
VuexFire was a Vuex binding that synced Firebase Realtime Database/Firestore refs to store state via an action enhancer (firebaseAction, bindFirebaseRef/unbindFirebaseRef). For anyone still on Vue 2 + Vuex 2, it's a thin, focused integration layer rather than a full data-fetching framework.
The API surface is small and well-scoped: one mutation set, one action enhancer, two functions. It supports Vuex modules without extra wiring, and bind calls return promises so you can gate loading state cleanly. Decent test coverage for a library this size (bind-array, bind-object, errors, modules specs).
Dead project: the README's first line says it moved to vuejs/vuefire, and the last commit here is from 2019 — this exact package hasn't been maintained in years. Vue 2 and Vuex 2/3 only, so it's a dead end for anyone on Vue 3/Pinia. Requires native WeakMap, meaning old IE/Safari/Android need a polyfill the library doesn't bundle. No TypeScript types shipped despite a types.js file in src, and the docs don't cover Firestore-specific gotchas (query limits, snapshot listener cleanup) at all.
