A tool to beautify your code screenshots. Built with SolidJS and Fastify.
CodeImage is a browser editor for turning source code into styled screenshots, with control over window style, theme, font and line numbers. It is built on SolidJS, CodeMirror 6 and Vanilla Extract, with a Fastify and Prisma API behind it for saving projects and presets. It suits developers who post snippets to social media or docs and want a good-looking image without opening a design app.
PNG export lives in its own package, @codeimage/dom-export, a fork of html-to-image with fixes for image export. Export bugs are the hard part of a tool like this, and keeping the fixes in one place makes them easy to find. Editing runs on CodeMirror 6, which is lighter than Monaco and fits a page whose main job is to look like a screenshot. The Vanilla Extract plugin fork fixes SolidJS and pnpm monorepo issues rather than just restyling anything, so the zero-runtime styles actually build in this layout.
The API layer (Fastify, Prisma, Auth0) is a lot of infrastructure for saving presets. The README does not say whether the editor runs fully without it, so someone who only wants a local tool has to work that out from the code. Two packages are forks of upstream projects, which means upstream fixes have to be ported by hand, and that maintenance cost is easy to miss. The last push was 28 March 2026, about six months before today, and the intro still calls it 'the newest tool', so the project's current pace is hard to judge from outside. The README also asks contributors to discuss any change in an issue before opening a PR, which makes small drive-by fixes more costly than they need to be.
