Gatsby MDX Blog Starter Project
A Gatsby starter for a personal blog where posts are written in MDX, so Markdown can embed React components such as a YouTube player. It includes Prism.js syntax highlighting, pagination, and category pages, and the README lists Egghead and Kent C. Dodds' site as users. It suits someone who wants a Gatsby blog they can own and extend, but the 2022-era setup is a poor starting point for a new project.
Posts are folders with an index.md and a sibling images directory, so each article's assets stay next to its content. The MDX example post shows the real selling point: React components rendered inline inside Markdown. Pagination and category listing are split into their own templates (blog.js, categories.js), so the listing logic is easy to find when you want to change it.
The last push was March 2022, and the lockfile pins the Gatsby and MDX plugin versions from that period. Expect to work through dependency upgrades before this builds cleanly on current Node. The public/ directory is committed with generated build output, including about twenty copies of the same banner.jpg under hashed static folders and page-data JSON, which adds noise to every diff. The repo has no CI workflow (.github only holds FUNDING.yml), no tests, and the README stops at local development, with nothing on deployment or on how to add a category to a post.
