★ 869 · Jupyter Notebook · updated Dec 2016

A set of Torch/Lua notebooks from soumith's CVPR 2015 workshop, covering a 60-minute Torch intro, NNGraph, a Karpathy-authored char-RNN, and DQN Atari training. It's a historical teaching artifact, not something you'd pull into a project today.

The DQN and char-RNN notebooks are genuinely good pedagogy — they walk through building the models rather than just calling a library function. Includes an EC2 AMI so attendees could skip environment setup entirely. Network diagrams (dot/svg) alongside the notebooks make the graph structures easy to follow instead of just reading code.

Torch and Lua are dead — nobody is starting new deep learning work in this stack, so the code won't run cleanly without real effort. Last push was 2016, so there's no chance of fixes if dependencies break. The EC2 AMI link is a decade-old console URL that's almost certainly gone. No requirements or setup instructions beyond the AMI, so reproducing this locally means guessing Torch/iTorch versions.
