This is a sudoku solver using the backtracking algorithm. It includes a graphical GUI as well as a text based version.

A classic backtracking sudoku solver in Python with a pygame GUI for entering a puzzle by hand and watching the algorithm fill it in, plus a separate text-only version. It's a tutorial project (there's a companion YouTube video) aimed at people learning basic algorithms and pygame, not at anyone who needs a serious sudoku engine.

The backtracking implementation is short and readable, good as a first exposure to constraint-satisfaction/recursion. The GUI lets you actually watch the algorithm backtrack cell by cell, which is a nice visual aid that most solver repos skip. Zero dependencies beyond pygame, so it runs in minutes with no setup friction.

No puzzle validation - you can pencil in an unsolvable or contradictory board and the algorithm will just churn through the full backtracking search space with no feedback. No tests at all, so any edit risks silently breaking the solver logic. Plain backtracking with no constraint propagation (no MRV heuristic, no bitmasking) means it's fine for easy boards but visibly slow on harder ones. The README is padded with an unrelated bootcamp ad, which says more about the maintainer's incentives than the code.
