un/inbox
Modern email for teams and professionals. A replacement for outdated email technology and tools. Alt to hey.com, front.com, missiveapp.com
UnInbox is a self-hostable, Slack-meets-email platform built as a Next.js/Hono/tRPC monorepo, with a dedicated mail-bridge service wrapping Postal for actual SMTP handling. It's aimed at teams who want shared inboxes with per-conversation notes, screener-style triage, and assignment, without adopting a closed SaaS like Front or Missive.
The architecture splits cleanly into separate services (platform, mail-bridge, storage, web) instead of one monolith, which makes sense given it's handling both a web app and raw SMTP traffic. Using Postal for the SMTP layer instead of writing a mail server from scratch is the right call. tRPC end-to-end plus DrizzleORM gives real type safety from DB to frontend, and passkey/2FA auth is implemented rather than just password login.
Self-hosting is explicitly punted to Discord ('requires some additional manual configuration... check out Discord community') rather than documented, which is a real barrier for anyone trying to run this in production. It's AGPLv3, so any team modifying it for internal use without also making source public needs a commercial license — a licensing trap people miss until legal asks. Last push was February 2026, seven months stale as of now, which is a lot of quiet time for a project this operationally complex (four services plus Postal plus MySQL plus S3-compatible storage to keep running).
