A free and open-source block-based email template builder.

A block-based, no-code email template builder for React/TypeScript apps — you compose emails as a JSON tree of blocks (text, image, button, columns, etc.) and render that tree to email-safe HTML or preview it live with a React component. Aimed at teams who want an in-house drag-and-drop template editor instead of hand-writing table-based HTML, without depending on an external SaaS.

Rendering is decoupled from editing: the JSON document, the `renderToStaticMarkup` HTML output, and the React `<Reader />` preview component are three separate concerns, so you can generate or mutate templates server-side without touching any React code. Each block type ships as its own npm package, so a server that only needs rendering doesn't pull in editor-only dependencies. The output targets the genuinely hard part of email dev — table-based HTML that survives Outlook's rendering engine — rather than just emitting modern CSS that breaks in half the clients people actually use.

The visual editor itself isn't an installable package — only the renderer (`@usewaypoint/email-builder`) is on npm; to get the actual builder UI you fork the repo and copy the Vite/MUI example, meaning you inherit and maintain that exact UI stack long-term. There's no templating layer: no variables, loops, or conditionals in the schema, so any per-recipient personalization has to happen outside this tool entirely (or you pay for Waypoint's hosted LiquidJS version, which is the obvious upsell this OSS repo exists to fund). The built-in block set is thin — no table, no social-links, no footer/unsubscribe helper — so anything beyond simple marketing/transactional layouts means writing custom blocks yourself. Test coverage is jest snapshot tests per block, which catches output drift but doesn't actually verify cross-client rendering; the client-support claims in the README link out to Waypoint's own docs rather than a reproducible suite in this repo.
