// the take
A reverse-engineered Python client for chat.deepseek.com's internal web API (not the official paid DeepSeek API) that exposes streaming chat, R1's thinking trace, and web search by replaying the private session protocol, including a reversed WASM proof-of-work challenge. It's for people who want DeepSeek's chat features for free/unmetered via a logged-in account token rather than paying per-token through the real API.
The WASM PoW reversal is genuinely the interesting part - they solved DeepSeek's anti-bot challenge without needing a headless browser for every request. The chunked response types (thinking/text/search) map directly onto R1's reasoning trace and search tool calls, which the official API doesn't expose at all. Error handling is split into specific exception classes (AuthenticationError, RateLimitError, CloudflareError, NetworkError) instead of one generic failure type.
Authentication is entirely manual: there's no login flow, you paste a userToken out of browser localStorage, and nothing refreshes it when it expires. Cloudflare evasion depends on an undetected-browser automation step to mint a cf_clearance cookie, which is a cat-and-mouse game DeepSeek can break at any time by tightening their challenge. This wraps an undocumented private endpoint rather than a stable API, so there's no compatibility guarantee and using it plausibly violates DeepSeek's terms, putting the underlying account at risk of a ban. No commits since Feb 2025 on a project whose entire value depends on tracking an upstream service that changes its protocol frequently - it's likely already broken.
