// the take

A curated list of tools, docs, and resources for Docker Swarm Mode (SwarmKit) — management UIs, deployment/GitOps tools, storage drivers, networking, and monitoring exporters. For anyone still running or considering Swarm rather than Kubernetes, and wanting a map of what's actually maintained versus abandoned in that ecosystem.

Actively updated with dated news entries through mid-2026, including real signal like Mirantis committing to Swarm support through 2030 and Docker Engine API v49 compatibility notes — this isn't a list that was built once and forgotten. The categorization (cluster management, GitOps, storage, networking, monitoring) maps well onto the actual gaps in Swarm's ecosystem, like the CSI storage driver situation post-v23, which is called out with specific context instead of just a link dump. The RIP section honestly flags dead tools like RexRay rather than leaving a list littered with abandonware.

It's a link index, not working software — the value is entirely in link quality, and several entries describe tools with thin or stalled upstream repos (GlusterFS/Ceph Swarm support, for instance, is explicitly still pending as an open issue years later). Swarm itself is a shrinking ecosystem: driver and vendor support keeps dwindling as the linked entries themselves admit, so a chunk of these tools are solving problems for a platform with declining third-party investment. No way to verify freshness or maintenance status of individual linked projects beyond what's manually annotated, so some entries will silently rot between README updates.
