// the take

A teaching sample app from Dan Wahlin (an Angular/TypeScript trainer) that walks through core Angular concepts — routing, custom components/directives/pipes, forms, HttpClient/RxJS — using a mock customer/order management app with a tiny Node/Azure Functions backend. It's aimed at developers learning Angular fundamentals or using it as a reference while taking one of Wahlin's courses, not at teams looking for a production starter.

Solid coverage of the fundamentals in one place: lazy-loaded child routes, custom directives/pipes, template-driven and reactive forms, and HttpClient+RxJS wired together in a way that's easy to trace end to end. It goes further than most jumpstarts by including Cypress e2e tests and Storybook stories for isolated component work. The deployment docs are unusually thorough for a sample app — Docker Compose, Kubernetes manifests, Skaffold, and a full walkthrough for Azure Container Apps with GitHub Actions CI, which is handy if you want to see a realistic deploy path rather than just `ng serve`.

The backend is flat JSON files served through a handful of Azure Functions with no real persistence, so none of the data-access patterns here transfer to an app with an actual database. The README doesn't commit to a specific Angular version or confirm it's using standalone components/signals, so depending on when you pull it you may be learning NgModule-era patterns that Angular has since moved away from. It's explicitly a vehicle for the author's paid training business, so updates likely track his course schedule rather than a community roadmap — check the commit history before relying on it staying current. No state management story (no NgRx/signals-store), which is fine for a jumpstart but means you'll outgrow it fast on anything beyond toy CRUD.

We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
