// the take
A community-built Firebase client for Godot, written entirely in GDScript. It wraps Auth (with OAuth providers), Realtime Database, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, Remote Config, and Dynamic Links, aimed at Godot devs who want a Firebase backend without writing their own REST glue.
Covers nearly the whole Firebase surface rather than just auth or just the realtime DB - including Firestore field transforms (increment, decrement, min/max, server timestamp) and an SSE-based listener for realtime document updates, which is more than a thin REST wrapper. Multiple OAuth providers (Google, Facebook, GitHub, Twitter, Play Games) are already wired into the auth module. It's maintained enough to track Godot's own version jumps and still take hacktoberfest contributions.
The README opens with a manual git-surgery warning because the main branch just switched from Godot 3.x to 4.x, meaning anyone upgrading has to rebase their fork by hand rather than pull a tagged release - a sign the versioning story is still rough. There's no visible test suite for a library that's mostly network/auth plumbing, which is exactly the kind of code where token refresh and reconnect-on-drop bugs hide. Documentation lives entirely on the wiki instead of in-repo, so it drifts from the code independently. No mention of how it handles Firebase security rules, request quotas, or auth token expiry/rotation, all of which matter the moment you ship a real game backend on top of it.
