Firebase Admin Python SDK
Google's official Firebase Admin SDK for Python — server-side access to Firebase Auth, Firestore, Realtime Database, Cloud Messaging, Storage, Remote Config, and a handful of smaller services from a single package. Aimed at backend developers running Python servers or Cloud Functions who need privileged access to a Firebase project rather than client-side SDK access.
One package covers ten-plus Firebase services (auth, firestore sync and async, db, messaging, storage, remote_config, app_check, ml, functions, tenant_mgt, phone_number_verification), so you're not stitching together separate google-cloud-* packages for common backend needs. Nightly CI builds plus dependabot plus a scripted release preflight check show this is actively maintained, not a Google project left on autopilot. Firestore ships a genuine async client (firestore_async.py) alongside the sync one instead of bolting async on as an afterthought. Integration tests run against the Firebase emulator suite rather than only mocking HTTP calls, which catches real serialization bugs.
The README is stale and undersells the project — it still says the SDK 'currently provides Firebase custom authentication support' when the codebase clearly covers Firestore, Storage, Messaging, and more; anyone skimming it would badly misjudge scope. No usage examples live in the README itself; you're sent straight to external docs, and the snippets/ directory that does have runnable examples isn't linked from anywhere. Star count (1159) is low for an official Google SDK, suggesting Python trails Node as the primary server-side Firebase audience — worth knowing before you commit if long-term support parity matters. Internal modules are aggressively underscore-prefixed (_auth_client, _http_client, etc.), so the actual public API isn't obvious without opening auth.py or firestore.py directly.
