Mayank0255/Stackoverflow-Clone-Frontend
Clone project of a famous Q/A website for developers built using MySQL, Express, React, Node, Sequelize :globe_with_meridians:
A from-scratch React/Redux clone of Stack Overflow's frontend, paired with a separate Express/MySQL/Sequelize backend repo. It's aimed at developers who want a full-featured CRUD app to study or contribute to, not at anyone looking for a production-ready Q&A platform.
The component tree is organized with an actual atomic-design structure (atoms/molecules/organisms) instead of the usual flat components folder, which makes the codebase easier to navigate than most clone projects. Feature coverage is genuinely broad: voting, comments, tags, a markdown editor, user profiles with activity history, and pagination are all implemented, not just stubbed. Docker support exists for the backend with documented env-var handling for local MySQL networking, which most hobby clones skip entirely.
It's billed as MERN but the database is MySQL via Sequelize, not Mongo — the tech stack name is just wrong, which is a bad sign for how carefully the docs were maintained. The Heroku backend link in the README has been dead since Heroku killed free dynos in November 2022, and the README still tells frontend-only developers to point at it. There's no test directory anywhere in the tree, so 200+ forks worth of hacktoberfest PRs went in with zero regression coverage. The last push was January 2024 and the whole thing reads as a hacktoberfest star-farming project rather than actively maintained software — expect stale dependencies and no response on issues.
