// the take

A tutorial-grade full-stack CRUD app pairing a React frontend with a Spring Boot + MySQL backend, built as companion code for a YouTube course on wiring the two together. Aimed at developers learning the basics of REST CRUD between React and Spring Boot, not at anyone looking for a production starting point.

Clean separation on the frontend: components call a dedicated axios service module (EmployeeService.js) instead of scattering fetch calls through the UI. Backend follows standard Spring Boot layering (controller/repository/model/exception) with JPA/Hibernate against MySQL, which is a reasonable reference for that stack's conventions. Small and complete enough to read end-to-end in an afternoon, with every CRUD operation (list, add, view, update, delete) having a matching REST endpoint and React component.

No authentication or authorization on any endpoint - everything is wide open, so this shouldn't be used as a base for anything touching real data. No meaningful test coverage: the frontend has none, and the single backend test class is the unmodified Spring Boot stub. Error handling is limited to one ResourceNotFoundException - malformed input will surface as raw 500s rather than validated 4xx responses. The project is dead (last push Feb 2024), has no CI or Docker setup, and the DB connection is hardcoded to localhost in application.properties, so it needs real rework before running anywhere beyond a laptop demo.
