Shopify's Polaris Design System - React implementation (Deprecated)

This is the archived React implementation of Shopify's Polaris design system, the component library used across Shopify admin and embedded apps. It is for teams already building on Polaris React who need the final published component set, since the README says the library is deprecated and no longer accepts contributions. New work should go to Polaris Web Components on shopify.dev.

The monorepo layout is a useful reference: design tokens, icons, React components, a stylelint plugin and a VS Code extension ship as separate packages with changesets. The migration guides cover every major version from v3 through v11 and document what changed in each breaking release. The accessibility and visual regression CI workflows, along with the Storybook deployment, show a design system tested beyond unit snapshots.

The repo is archived and will not receive fixes, so any bug you hit is yours to patch or work around. The license is custom rather than MIT and limits use to applications that integrate or interoperate with Shopify software, with extra restrictions on standalone apps, which rules it out for many non-Shopify projects. The icons fall under a separate Polaris Design Guidelines license with the same kind of limits. Adopting this version means building on a library whose upstream has moved to Web Components, so you will likely face a migration later.
