The all-in-one tool to supercharge your productivity ⌨️
Omni is a browser extension that opens a command palette with Ctrl+Shift+K for switching tabs, searching bookmarks and history, and running about 50 actions. It suits people who would rather type a command than hunt through menus, and it is free with no account for Chrome and Firefox.
- The Chrome extension is plain JavaScript and jQuery loaded straight from src/ with no build step, so the whole thing can be read in an afternoon and loaded unpacked without a toolchain.
- Scoping one search box with slash prefixes (/tabs, /bookmarks, /history, /actions) is a sound design. It avoids a separate UI for each data source.
- Result lists go through virtualized-list.min.js, which is the right choice for a palette that has to stay responsive over a large browsing history.
- dom-focus-lock keeps keyboard focus inside the input, so the palette doesn't lose keystrokes to the page underneath.
- The last push was January 2024. The README still links Chrome's Manifest V2 FAQ, and Chrome has largely retired MV2, so check that the current build still loads before you rely on it.
- The Firefox code sits in a separate firefox/ tree with its own copies of background.js, content.js and related files. Every fix has to land in both trees or they drift apart.
- jQuery and nice-select are vendored as minified copies, and jquery.js appears in both trees. Nothing in the visible tree shows tests, linting or CI, so changes to the command handlers have no safety net.
- The README lists integrations with Notion, Figma and Asana. The tree only shows their logo files, which suggests shortcut actions rather than API connections, and the README doesn't say which.
