Android Developer Roadmap - A complete roadmap to learn Android App Development
A nested outline of what an Android developer is expected to know, running from Java and Kotlin basics through components, Jetpack, Compose, testing and release. It is a checklist with a few links, most useful to someone who already programs and wants to find gaps in their Android knowledge.
- The tree runs roughly from platform fundamentals (activities, intents, views) to threading, networking and release, so it reads as a rough learning sequence rather than a flat list of tags.
- Coroutines and Flow get the most depth, with sub-points on dispatchers, scopes, lifecycleScope versus viewModelScope, and StateFlow versus SharedFlow. Those are the areas where interview questions and production bugs tend to cluster.
- The Compose section names the state concepts that matter (remember, rememberSaveable, state hoisting, recomposition) instead of stopping at the word Compose.
- Most nodes are one or two words with no explanation, such as Canvas, Systrace or Slice. A beginner gets a list of names with no guidance on what to build or what order to learn them in.
- Several entries are dated and presented as current. GlobalScope is discouraged, Firebase Dynamic Links was shut down in 2025, Glide and Picasso sit side by side with no guidance on which to choose, and Download Manager and Slice are rarely the right answer today.
- The dependency injection entry lists Dagger and never mentions Hilt, which is what most Android teams use now. Nearly every resource link goes to the author's blog or YouTube channel, and none point to developer.android.com, which is the reference most of these topics need.
