// the take

A free Spanish-language video course (16+ hours on YouTube) that teaches Android development in Kotlin from absolute zero, through Kotlin fundamentals and into Jetpack Compose, building several small complete apps along the way. It's aimed squarely at total beginners who've never written a line of code.

Code is split by lesson/topic and lines up with timestamped video chapters, so you can jump straight to a specific concept's code instead of scrubbing through hours of video. It teaches the current stack (Jetpack Compose, DataStore for persistence) instead of legacy View/XML Android, so beginners aren't learning patterns they'll have to unlearn later. There are several complete small apps (BMI calculator, todo list with categories, a superhero lookup app, a dogs API browser with Retrofit) that go beyond toy syntax snippets into real state management and networking. The exercise-then-solution structure (exercises set at the end of a class, solved at the start of the next) gives learners a reason to actually write code rather than just copy it.

There's no test coverage beyond the default Android Studio boilerplate (ExampleInstrumentedTest, ExampleUnitTest) — none of the sample apps have real tests, so it doesn't model that habit for beginners either. This is frozen companion material for a specific video, not a maintained library: don't expect it to track newer Kotlin/Compose releases or get bug fixes once the course is done. Everything — README, comments, the support channel — is Spanish-only, which caps the audience despite living on a platform where most searchers are English speakers. The repo itself carries almost no written explanation; the README is just a list of video timestamps, so if you don't want to sit through 16+ hours of video, the code alone gives you syntax with no rationale behind it.

We read the README, the directory tree and a key source file in October 2026. Nobody pays to be listed. How we judge →
