// the find
apna-college/zerodha-clone
A tutorial project that rebuilds Zerodha's trading dashboard UI across three separate apps: an Express/Mongoose backend, a React dashboard (holdings, positions, orders, watchlist), and a React marketing/landing frontend. It's built to be followed along a video course, not used or extended as a real product.
Clean three-way split between API, authenticated dashboard, and marketing site mirrors how an actual fintech product is organized, which is more realistic than most tutorial clones. The dashboard decomposes into sensibly scoped components (GeneralContext, separate chart components, per-feature CSS) instead of one giant file. Branch-per-topic structure lets you check out the exact state of the code at any lecture, which is a genuinely useful pattern that's rarely executed this cleanly.
backend/.env is committed to the repo — if it holds a real Mongo connection string that's a live leaked credential, and even as a placeholder it's teaching a habit that will bite someone who forks it and forgets to gitignore their own. No tests, no CI, no linting config anywhere in the tree. The README is a single line pointing at branch names, with no setup instructions, no required env vars, no architecture notes. Dead since March 2024, so dependency versions (React, Mongoose, Express) are frozen in place with no indication they still resolve cleanly.
