Awesome Ruby and Rails Open Source applications 🌈
A hand-maintained list of open-source Ruby and Rails applications, split into a huge 'clone of X startup' section (Airbnb, Kickstarter, Medium, Trello, etc.) and a categorized directory of real projects (CMS, ecommerce, CRM, background jobs, editors, and so on). It's aimed at Rails developers looking for reference codebases or portfolio project ideas, not at anyone looking for a tool to install.
The category breakdown (CMS, ecommerce, DevOps, blogging, editors, etc.) is genuinely useful for finding real production-grade Rails apps like Spree, Sidekiq, Discourse, and Mastodon in one place. It links to `real-world-rails`, which is itself a solid meta-resource. The clone-app section is a decent bootcamp-project reference if you want to see how others implemented a specific feature (auth, drag-and-drop boards, etc.) in Rails.
No vetting: emoji tags like 🔥🚀✅ stand in for actual quality signals, and many linked clone repos are single-author bootcamp projects last touched years ago with no maintenance. Several flagship entries (Mastodon, GitLab, Jekyll) aren't Ruby/Rails learning material so much as massive unrelated codebases dropped in without context on why they belong here. The list itself hasn't been substantively restructured in a long time, links rot silently since nothing checks whether the linked repos are still alive, and there's no way to filter by Rails version, which matters a lot given some entries predate Rails 5.
