photup

photup is Chris Banes's old Facebook photo-upload app for Android, open-sourced after he stopped maintaining it commercially. It's useful as a reference for pre-Jetpack Android image handling (selection, cropping, tagging, background upload queue) rather than as a library or app you'd actually run today.

It's real shipped code from a Play Store app with a 4.4 rating, not a toy demo, so the upload queue, crop UI, and photo tagging flows reflect actual production decisions. Written by the same author as PhotoView, so the image-handling pieces are worth reading even in isolation.

Every dependency is dead: ActionBarSherlock, EventBus 2.0.2, OrmLite, Crouton, plus forked JARs of ActivityCompat2 and the Facebook SDK that aren't on any repository. Build is Ant (build.xml), not Gradle, so it won't build in a modern Android Studio without a full migration. Last commit is 2018 and it predates AndroidX entirely, meaning anyone wanting to actually run this is looking at a rewrite, not a patch.
