PDO_OLEDB is a driver that implements the PHP Data Objects (PDO) interface to enable access from PHP to Microsoft SQL Server and other databases on Windows through OLE-DB

A PHP extension written in C that implements a PDO driver backed by OLE-DB, letting PHP on Windows talk to SQL Server (and other OLE-DB providers) through COM instead of the usual sqlsrv or ODBC stack. It's aimed at PHP developers stuck on Windows who need OLE-DB-specific provider access that PDO_SQLSRV doesn't expose.

It fills a real gap: OLE-DB providers exist for databases and data sources that have no native PDO driver, so this is one of the few ways to reach them from PHP. The code follows the standard PDO driver extension layout (separate files for statements, errors, streams) rather than being a monolithic hack, so it's at least structured the way PHP core expects PDO drivers to look.

There's a file literally named EXPERIMENTAL in the repo root, and the last commit is from 2013 with a single star and zero forks — this is unmaintained, pre-PHP-7 era code that almost certainly won't build against a modern PHP ABI without significant porting work. It's Windows-only and depends on COM/OLE-DB, so it can't be used in any Linux-based deployment, which is where most PHP now runs. There are no tests, no CI, no documentation beyond a one-line README, and no versioning or release tags, so you'd be adopting it on faith with no way to verify correctness against your specific OLE-DB provider.
