dingo/api
A RESTful API package for the Laravel and Lumen frameworks.
Dingo API was the go-to package for versioning, rate limiting, and content negotiation on top of Laravel/Lumen APIs back when Laravel's own tooling for this was thin. It's for anyone maintaining an older Laravel API project that already depends on it — not a fit for anything new.
The feature set is genuinely complete for its era: API versioning via Accept headers, pluggable rate limiting throttles (authenticated vs unauthenticated), multiple auth providers (Basic, JWT, OAuth2-style Authorization), and a transformer layer built on Fractal for consistent response shaping. The rate limiter and auth provider abstractions are cleanly separated behind contracts/interfaces, so swapping implementations doesn't mean touching core dispatch code.
The README itself tells you this repo is dead — maintenance moved to api-ecosystem-for-laravel/dingo-api and this location is explicitly abandoned, with CI already broken. Last push was 2022, well before Laravel 10/11, so compatibility with anything current is unknown and untested. Support is routed through a Slack channel gated on pinging a specific person by name, which is a bad sign for a package anyone new would depend on. Modern Laravel has absorbed most of this package's reason to exist (built-in rate limiting, API resources for transformation), so the value proposition that made this popular no longer holds for greenfield work.
