A utility for managing Jsonnet dashboards against the Grafana API

Grizzly is Grafana's own CLI for managing dashboards, alert rules, datasources, and Prometheus/Mimir rules as Jsonnet or YAML code, meant to be wired into CI so observability config ships alongside the app. It's aimed at teams already doing GitOps who want their Grafana state diffable and reviewable instead of clicked together in the UI.

Resource coverage is genuinely broad — dashboards, folders, datasources, library elements, alert contact points/policies/rule groups, Prometheus and Mimir recording rules, and Synthetic Monitoring checks all go through the same apply/diff workflow. The integration test suite hits real provider endpoints (dashboard_test.go, datasource_test.go, mimir/rules_test.go etc.) rather than just mocking the Grafana API. It also ships a live-reload server and self-update command, so the preview-while-editing loop is already built in, not bolted on.

The README leads with a deprecation notice: Grafana is replacing it with grafanactl, so anyone adopting Grizzly today is building on a tool with a defined end of life and no migration tooling, just a link to a GitHub discussion. Config is Jsonnet-first, which is a real barrier for teams that don't already use it elsewhere — YAML support exists but feels secondary. The single `backstage-include` topic and Grafana-internal CODEOWNERS structure suggest this was built for Grafana Labs' own stack first and open-sourced second, which shows in how sparse the non-Grafana-specific docs are.
