ggplot2: elegant graphics for data analysis
This is the source for the ggplot2 book (text and R/Quarto code behind ggplot2-book.org), not the ggplot2 package itself — it's for people who want to read or reproduce the reference book on ggplot2's grammar-of-graphics API, or who want to see production-quality examples of every geom, scale, and coord in context.
The book is the closest thing to an authoritative reference for ggplot2 internals and extension mechanisms, written by the package author; chapters like internals.qmd and programming.qmd cover the tidy evaluation and grob-building machinery that the official docs gloss over. Every example in the book is runnable source (.qmd files), so you can pull code directly instead of retyping from a PDF, and CI (bookdown.yaml) checks that the book still builds against current package versions.
GitHub's language detection says Perl, which is wrong and a sign the repo mixes a lot of legacy build cruft (LaTeX/Springer contract PDFs, .graffle diagram sources, old build scripts) alongside the actual content — expect noise if you clone it looking for just the text. It's a book repo, not a library: no package code to install or API to call, so it's only useful if you're willing to read or build the book rather than consult it as a quick reference. Last push was March 2025, so check whether it tracks the current ggplot2 release before trusting any internals chapter against the latest source.
