mtdvio/every-programmer-should-know
A collection of (mostly) technical things every software developer should know about
A giant README of links to articles, books, papers, and courses spanning CS fundamentals, distributed systems, security, and career advice. It's a bookmark dump for developers who want a reading list to dip into over months, not a tool or library.
A real chunk of the links are primary sources rather than blog fluff — Lamport's clocks paper, Out of the Tar Pit, the Jepsen partition-tolerance writeups, Designing Data-Intensive Applications — material that actually holds up. It's just a README, so there's no dependency rot or breaking changes to worry about. Breadth is genuine: CS theory, distributed systems, crypto, SEO, and career stuff all get sections, which is useful as a jumping-off point even if shallow.
Zero curation depth — it's a flat bulleted list with no annotation on why one resource beats another, and no apparent quality bar given the open CONTRIBUTING.md process. The top of the README is a sponsorship banner for the author's own paid quiz product, which is a bad sign for how 'curated' this actually is. Heavy link rot risk: a lot of entries point to random Medium posts, a defunct Google+-era SlidesHare, and personal blogs that can vanish or get hijacked. Sections like Career, Remote Work, and Mental Health dilute the premise — 'things every programmer should know' stretching to NomadList and salary sites is filler, not knowledge.
