A link dump of tech talks, academic papers, and blog posts on distributed systems, scalability, and system design. Aimed at developers preparing for system design interviews or filling gaps in their distributed systems knowledge. No code, no runnable examples — just a long curated list of external resources.
The paper section is genuinely solid — Dynamo, GFS, Bigtable, Raft, Paxos, Chord are the canonical distributed systems papers and they're all here. The company-specific talk section (YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest) gives concrete examples of how these ideas played out in production. The range is good: storage, consensus, stream processing, graph processing, and API design are all covered. For someone who doesn't know where to start with distributed systems literature, this is a reasonable reading list.
Last updated November 2023, but most content is from 2012–2016 — the Twitter and Instagram talks predate significant architectural changes at both companies. Nothing on modern consensus alternatives (etcd, CockroachDB's internals), container orchestration at scale, or serverless trade-offs. No annotations or difficulty ratings, so a junior dev has no idea whether to start with the Harvard lecture or the Lamport clocks paper. The web links section links to dead blogs and Instagram engineering posts that no longer exist.
