Hunt the most starred projects on any date on GitHub
GitHunt is a React app (and matching Chrome extension) for browsing GitHub's most-starred repos by date, with list/grid views and a language filter. It's for developers who want a Product-Hunt-style way to page back through historical trending snapshots rather than just today's list.
Same codebase ships as both a standalone web app and a Chrome extension, which keeps the UI logic in one place. The date-jump filter to scroll back through past weeks is a genuinely useful feature most trending-repo tools skip. Component layout is sensibly split (filters, grid-item, list-item, redux slices per domain), so it's easy to find where a given piece of UI lives.
No tests anywhere in the tree — for a UI this size that's a real gap if you plan to modify it. Redux is hand-rolled with separate actions/reducers/types files instead of Redux Toolkit, which is more boilerplate than needed for 2026. The README says nothing about how trending data is actually sourced (GitHub API vs scraping, rate limits, refresh cadence), which matters if you want to self-host or extend it. Plain JS with no TypeScript, so there's no type safety across the redux/github transform layer.
