py-mine/PyMine-Server
A fast and easy to use, moddable, Python based Minecraft server!
An attempt to reimplement a Minecraft Java Edition server in pure Python using asyncio, aimed at people who want to mod or extend server behavior in Python rather than Java plugins. It's an ambitious, incomplete project, not a drop-in Spigot/Paper replacement.
Clean async networking design and separation between protocol/packet handling and plugin API. Has a real plugin API with command/argument parsing already working, not just a stub. Includes status/login/query protocol support and a sizable chunk of game data (recipes, blocks, NBT defaults) already ported, which is a lot of tedious grunt work done for you.
Core gameplay isn't done - no entities, no real world generation beyond superflat, play logic still WIP per their own checklist, so it's not usable as an actual server for players yet. No commits since Dec 2022, so this looks abandoned at an unfinished state. Performance story is confused: recommending PyPy3 to make a pure-Python server fast suggests the architecture will always be a step behind a JVM or Rust implementation. Plugin ecosystem is essentially one example repo, nothing production-grade to build on.
