YesPlayMusic is a third-party desktop and web client for NetEase Cloud Music (a Chinese streaming service), built with Vue 2 and Electron. It wraps an unofficial API to give NetEase users a cleaner UI with features the official client buries or monetizes. Useful only if you have a NetEase account.
The UI polish is genuinely impressive — screenshots show attention to typography and layout that the official app lacks. UnblockNeteaseMusic integration is a practical win: greyed-out tracks are automatically rerouted through alternative sources, making the library actually playable. Deployment flexibility is real — Docker, Vercel, self-hosted, PWA, and packaged Electron binaries all supported. Last.fm scrobbling, Mpris, and Touch Bar support show it was built for power users who care about ecosystem integration.
The project is now in maintenance mode — v1 is frozen, v2 Alpha exists but has no documented feature parity or timeline. Tied entirely to an unofficial API (NeteaseCloudMusicApi) that NetEase can break or block at any time; the entire thing falls apart if they do. Vue 2 + Vuex + Vue CLI is a dead stack — Vue 2 EOL'd in December 2023, and there's no migration path visible. Hard geographic lock: zero value if you don't have a NetEase account, which requires a Chinese phone number to register.
