xiaolai/bitcoin-whitepaper-chinese-translation

★ 1,200 · HTML · updated Jun 2024

A Chinese translation of the Bitcoin whitepaper by xiaolai (Li Xiaolai), published on the 10th anniversary of the original paper. It provides a bilingual English-Chinese side-by-side version in Markdown, HTML, and PDF formats. The audience is Chinese-speaking developers or economists who want to read the primary source without relying on earlier, rougher translations.

The bilingual side-by-side format is genuinely useful — you can compare the original English against the Chinese without jumping between documents. The SVG diagrams are properly reproduced from dhimmel's reformatted version, which is cleaner than the original PDF. It exists in three formats (MD, HTML, PDF), so it's accessible in different reading contexts. The translator is transparent about limitations and credits other versions, which is more honest than most translation projects.

This is a static document repo, not software — there is nothing to install, run, or contribute to meaningfully. The math formulas don't render in GitHub's Markdown viewer, which is a known issue the README acknowledges but doesn't fix (a GitHub Pages deployment would solve this). The PDF is generated from Typora rather than a reproducible build, so there's no way to verify the output from source without the same toolchain. Last commit was 2024, but the content itself hasn't changed since 2018 — the star count reflects the subject matter's notoriety more than the translation's quality.
