Extension index for stable-diffusion-webui

This is the data repository that feeds the Extensions tab of AUTOMATIC1111's stable-diffusion-webui — one JSON file per extension under extensions/, assembled by GitHub Actions into the index.json the webui fetches at runtime. It's not a tool you install; it's infrastructure for extension discovery, relevant to extension authors who want to be listed and to anyone auditing what's available in the SD webui ecosystem.

The contribution flow is genuinely low-friction: copy extension_template.json, fill it in, PR against the extensions branch, and build_index.py/GitHub Actions handles assembly and deploy to master — no one hand-edits index.json. Validation (validate_entries.yml) and metadata refresh (update_metadata.yml) run automatically, so star counts and 'added' dates don't rot from manual neglect. The tags.json system (online, ads, localization) gives consumers real signal — flagging which extensions phone home or self-advertise is a legitimate security/trust feature, not decoration. It's flat JSON with no build step for consumers, so parsing or diffing the whole index is trivial.

Automated validation only checks structure, not whether an extension actually works — 'functioning' and 'maintained' status leans on manual review, and with 300+ entries that review queue is opaque from outside the repo. There's no compatibility metadata linking an extension to a webui version, so a listed extension gives no signal about whether it still works against a current release without installing it. Dead extensions get redirected to forks or removed per the README, but that's reactive, not something a consumer can check before pulling one in. The bigger risk is upstream: stable-diffusion-webui itself has slowed to a crawl, so curating its extension index is effort spent on a shrinking ecosystem.
