Send and receive SMS messages with Laravel

// the take

A Laravel package that wraps roughly ten SMS/MMS providers (Twilio, Nexmo, Plivo, CallFire, EZTexting, FlowRoute, LabsMobile, Mozeo, Zenvia, JustSend) plus a free carrier email-gateway fallback behind one driver interface. It's aimed at Laravel apps that want to send/receive texts without hardcoding a single provider's SDK into application code.

The DriverInterface/AbstractSMS/DriverManager split is a genuinely clean abstraction - adding a new gateway or swapping providers in production doesn't touch calling code. Coverage is wide for a single package: ten paid gateways plus the zero-cost email-to-SMS carrier gateway route. It follows standard Laravel package conventions (service provider, facade, published config), so integration is unsurprising for anyone who's installed other Laravel packages.

No commits since June 2020 - the README's own pinned note is the maintainer asking if anyone wants it updated for Laravel 7, and nothing shipped after that, so it predates Laravel 8 through 11 and current PHP versions entirely. Twilio, Nexmo (now Vonage), and Plivo have all pushed breaking API changes since 2020, so several bundled drivers are likely calling deprecated or dead endpoints. The email-gateway driver depends on carrier-to-email SMS relays that most US carriers have throttled or killed as spam vectors since this was written, making the 'free' option unreliable today. Test coverage is thin relative to surface area - two test files covering eleven drivers means most gateways have no regression protection at all.
