:computer: :mortar_board: Learn Git and GitHub. Try the new desktop version →
An interactive, terminal-based Git and GitHub tutorial that walks learners through problems (branching, forking, pull requests) with automated verification. This is the original CLI version; the author explicitly retired it in favor of an Electron desktop app (jlord/git-it-electron) and stopped maintaining this one.
The problem/setup/solution/verify.js pattern per exercise is a real teaching mechanism, not a quiz — it scaffolds an actual git scenario on disk and programmatically checks the learner's repo state, which beats a multiple-choice tutorial. It's dependency-light and runs entirely in a terminal, so there's no browser sandbox or account wall between the learner and real git commands. Localization (zh-tw) was already built into the content pipeline via buildpages.js.
Explicitly retired by the author since around 2016 — the README's whole purpose is to point you at the Electron rewrite instead, so anything here is effectively frozen. No CI, no test suite for git-it.js itself, and the verify scripts likely assume git CLI output formats that have since drifted. It's built on old-style Node (package.json without engines pinning, no lockfile visible), so getting it running today means fighting version skew rather than learning git.
