ItemAnimators: Supercharged Animators for your RecyclerView

// the take

A set of ready-made ItemAnimator implementations for RecyclerView - alpha fades, scale, and directional slides - that fire on add/remove/move/change events (not on scroll). Aimed at Android devs who want polish on list changes without hand-writing animation logic themselves.

Animators correctly implement the full RecyclerView animation state machine (same contract as DefaultItemAnimator), so they don't break on edge cases the way naive custom animators often do. Decent spread of ready-to-use effects - scale, alpha cross-fade, and slide in all four directions - covering most common list-change UI patterns. Zero-friction integration: one line (setItemAnimator(...)) and no extra dependencies beyond the RecyclerView artifact itself.

Last commit is from 2020 - no Kotlin, no Compose equivalent, and Compose has largely absorbed this use case for new RecyclerView-free codebases, so adoption today is really only for legacy View-based screens. No test suite; animation correctness across RecyclerView states rests entirely on manual verification by one maintainer. The library is a no-op if you don't call the right notifyItemX methods on your adapter, and it gives no runtime warning when that happens - the README just points you at the author's other library (FastAdapter) instead of handling it. The appcompat vs AndroidX version split (pre/post 1.1.0) is a real footgun for anyone mixing this into a newer AndroidX project without reading the fine print.
