Port of Mdo's excellent theme to Hugo

Hyde is a Hugo port of the classic Jekyll Hyde theme — a clean two-column layout with a colored sidebar. It's for developers who want a minimal personal blog or documentation site and don't want to design anything themselves.

The base16 color system gives you eight usable themes with a single config line, which is genuinely handy. The reverse layout option and sticky sidebar toggling are both pure CSS/class changes with no JS required. Steve Francia (spf13) built Hugo and ported this himself, so the Hugo integration is idiomatic. Recent activity in 2025 means it actually tracks current Hugo template APIs.

628 stars and 595 forks is a warning sign: nearly as many forks as stars suggests most users had to patch it themselves to get what they needed. No dark mode support — the sidebar themes are cosmetic color swaps, not proper light/dark switching. Disqus is the only comment system option, which is a privacy-hostile default that most people will want to rip out. The layout is fixed two-column with no responsive breakpoint options documented; you're expected to override CSS yourself.
